I was born in Orange, Texas where my father who is a Lutheran pastor was serving a nearby mission congregation. We moved to Grundy Center, IA when I was two and lived there until 4th grade when we moved to Ankeny, IA which is where I graduated from high school. I went to Wartburg College and graduated with a major in Social Work. I then went to Wartburg Seminary where I received my Masters of Divinity. I come from a long line of Lutheran pastors: fourth generation on my mom’s side and fifth on my dad’s. I have a younger sister and brother who live in New Jersey and Spain.   I met my wife, Nancy while working two summers at Okoboji Lutheran Bible Camp in Iowa. I was a counselor and she was one of the camp nurses. So I like to joke that I had to go see the nurse often for various “ailments.” We will have been married 34 years the end of May. Nancy has worked as a nurse but has worked mostly in the schools as a paraprofessional working with special needs kids.   We have two adult children and a grandchild. Our oldest, Steven is married to Lindsay and they have a 20 month old girl, Alice Pearl. Steven is an ELCA pastor in Apple Valley, MN. Our daughter, Rachel, is a Youth and Family Director at Diamond Lake Lutheran in Minneapolis. She was married last September to Lucas Holsten, who will graduate from Luther Seminary this year. We are looking forward to being closer to family.   My faith journey began when I was baptized Jan. 18th, 1959. My faith was nurtured by parents, grandparents, Sunday and Confirmation teachers. My favorite verse is Ephesians 2:8 “For by grace you have been saved through faith, and this is not your own doing; it is the gift of God.” I have served as a pastor and youth and family pastor at churches in WI (near Viroqua and in Marshfield) and Iowa.   Hobbies include: Riding bike, going on walks, reading (fiction and fantasy/science fiction), watching and cheering the Packers, watching movies and playing volleyball.    We are looking forward to getting to know you and being part of this exciting new joint venture of the ministry of St. James Trinity and English Lutheran.

I have lived in Chippewa Falls most of my life.  My family moved to here when I was in 2nd grade from Duluth, MN.  I have an Administrative Assistant-Associate Degree from Chippewa Valley Technical College as well as 15+ years of experience.  I grew up in a Presbyterian Church with my father being the Pastor.
I feel this has been very useful coming into a church office as I already knows the ins and outs.  I have a 21-year-old daughter, Makaya, who is a junior at UW – Stout.  She is currently student teaching in Menomonie and plans to be an Art Teacher.  I also have a 17-month-old son named Greyson, who is a charmer and is as sweet as can be.  I feel very blessed to be his Mom and he has been a wonderful addition to my life!  My favorite bible verse is Joshua 1:9 “Have I not commanded you? Be strong and courageous. Do not be terrified; do not be discouraged, for the LORD your God will be with you wherever you go.”
Youth Director: Zoe Vogler
I have been the Youth Director since January 2017.
I was born and raised right here in Chippewa Falls and have lived here for all my life.  I graduated from the University of Wisconsin- Stout in 2017 with a degree in Human Development and Family Studies and completed my internship here, at ELCB. I enjoy traveling, being outside and spending time with my boyfriend and our families.  One of my favorite bible verses is: Proverbs 3:5-6: Trust in the Lord with all your heart, and do not rely on your own insight.  In all your ways acknowledge him, and he will make straight your paths.
Choir Director: Kay Scharn
Kay Scharn grew up in Iowa, where she sang in various choirs and learned to play the piano and other instruments. She became a registered nurse in 1980 and worked in various critical care, cardiac care and trauma units in Iowa, Wisconsin and Hawaii.  She earned a Master’s Degree in Nursing in 1987 and Education Specialist in 1999.  She worked for 26 years at CVTC, teaching critical care, pharmacology and behavioral health. She was the college Diversity Educator for many years, served on the college Foundation Board, and wrote for and edited several national texts. Kay is also a Legal Nurse Consultant and has taught in that area as well.   Kay has always been involved with music. She has served as a church organist and pianist since age 16. She was the Director of Piano Ministry at University Lutheran Church in Eau Claire for several decades. She is the pianist for the Valley Gospel Choir and various other vocal and instrumental groups. She frequently plays in pit orchestras for both the Chippewa Valley Theater Guild and the Eau Claire Children’s Theater. When not playing shows, she accompanies high school students for solo ensemble contest. Kay was the Vocal Director for the Eau Claire Women’s Chorus and currently serves as the choir director for both St. James Trinity Lutheran Church and English Lutheran Church of Bateman. Kay says that she is inspired by music. She credits her parents for supporting her musical education and showing her that if you work hard enough, you can accomplish anything!
Organist: Nancy Nerdrum
Nancy-NerdrumNancy Nerdrum is the organist/accompanist for English Lutheran Church of Bateman.  She is retired from her long time position as  Executive Assistant to the Superintendent of Schools in the Chippewa Falls School District.   She grew up on a farm north of Withee, Wisconsin and took piano lessons since she was a third grader at the insistence of her mother.  She has been playing the piano ever since.  She started taking organ lessons 1990 and played the organ at various churches in the area.   She has been an organist at ELCB since 2006.   She believes music is one of the most important parts of church service and she enjoys leading hymns with her energetic style.   When she is not practicing, she is spending time in her garden, sewing or working on her Norwegian genealogy research.   She resides near Lake Wissota State Park with her husband, Tom Meyer and cat, Minnie.
